"presented to me by wm. ld. garrison, 1853," signed and dated "Laura Clay 1903" with "L. Clay" repeated on the rear paste-down. Additional signatures and notes on the end-papers include the ownership signature of Helen Bennet, Ms. Clay's niece, who then gave the book to Katherine Phelps Caperton in 1941. Laura Clay (1849-1941) suffragist and daughter of Cassius Marcellus Clay, noted Kentucky politician. A very nice association copy.
